Joanna Edwards joined the MHRB in 2018 as the associate director of recovery.
She has over seventeen years of social work experience based in the fields of healthcare and behavioral health. Edwards completed her BSSW with a minor in gerontology/long-term care administration and began her career working with the senior population. Following graduate school and work in both inpatient psychiatry and partial hospitalization, she transitioned to a position working directly with patients and families experiencing medical and/or behavioral health crises. This afforded her the opportunity to work with a diverse client base with needs such as psychiatric stabilization, chemical dependency treatment, crisis intervention, trauma/loss support, homelessness, domestic violence/abuse, barriers to care, and need for referral to resources in a center serving multiple counties. Her clients in this environment ranged from infants to the elderly. At the WHMHRB, Edwards is working with the Wayne County Opiate Task Force, local healthcare systems, youth services and schools, and outpatient providers to identify and meet the needs of Wayne & Holmes Counties.
